Last Friday, Chris Drabsch and Gianna Grbich of Daydream pitched a business idea to a panel of investors at Mega’s Pitch Day, and won all three categories in the pitch session - best business plan, best pitch, and the peer assessment prize. They were awarded $5000 in prize money, plus a $1000 mobile phone gift voucher for their achievements - and they have been invited to represent South Australia in the National Mega Pitch Day to be held in Sydney on 8th August.
Chronicle Mobile is a concept for a mobile phone application that allows sufferers of chronic pain to effectively track and manage their pain symptoms, and share this information wirelessly with their medical practitioner. The concept originated from Gianna’s own personal experience with chronic pain, and together Chris and Gianna have put forward a mobile solution that could potentially help 4.4 million chronic pain sufferers in Australia alone.
Mega is the Mobile Enterprise Growth Alliance, a workshop lab within which ideas for mobile content and applications are developed with the direct supervision of Australia’s leading industry experts before being pitched to a panel of investors. With the support of private enterprise, education and government, the program has been launched in SA, Vic & NSW. Mega’s goal is to grow the capacity and capabilities of the Australian mobile industry.

Recently, some illustrations that we originally produced for Filter 67 have made a guest appearance in Lowdown Magazine (Vol 30, Apr 08), an internationally distributed magazine on arts and culture. The article’s author, Lachlan Tetlow-Stuart, was so impressed with the supporting illustrations we did for his article in Filter, that when he was asked to re-publish his work in Lowdown, he requested to bring our illustrations along with them!
Lachlan was also kind enough to arrange a nice little credit for us at the bottom of the article too, and we thank Amanda at ANAT for bringing this to our attention. Lachlan’s article on Graffiti Research Labs can be read in full by downloading a copy of Filter from ANAT, or by picking up a copy of Lowdown.

Tonight I stumbled across this rather unique commercial dating from the 1970’s, spoken by master voiceover artist (and moonlighting beatnik) Ken Nordine. Ken takes us on a rather remarkable journey through the life and experiences of a trademark - the trademark in this instance is the famous red and white Levi’s Jeans logo. This video is a rather beautiful example of how logos and brands often take on personas of their own, which encapsulate the history and experiences of the company it represents. It also cleverly weaves in much on-screen time for the Levi’s logo, and the jeans product itself, with some pioneering pyschadelic imagery.

Freshly redesigned by Daydream, the new website for the Australian Network for Arts and Technology formally launched on the 15th of May 2008, marking a new step forward for the organization as they relocate offices from Hindley St to North Terrace in Adelaide. The occasion was marked by a launch party at ANAT’s new offices, led by ANAT’s director Melinda Rackham and supported by employees, colleagues and friends of ANAT.
The website was also developed with the help of Katalyst Design who built the backend CMS platform which powers the website, and was skinned by Daydream Graphics to reflect an exciting and vibrant new chapter in ANAT’s story.
You can take a look at photos of the launch party here, and you can also see the new website in action by visiting www.anat.org.au.
